The Devil had a Daughter
4 August – 1 October 2011

Curator: Kirrily Hammond
An enduring fascination for allegorical, theatrical and macabre representations is apparent over the history of printmaking, from the grotesque images of late medieval times and the symbolism and myth of nineteenth century Romanticism, to the anarchistic disruptions of Dada photo-montage.

Drawing upon various forms and approaches of printmaking such as architectural installations, the artist’s book, performative works, found print-media, as well as longer standing print traditions The Devil had a Daughter opens up the definition of ‘printmaking’ towards an expanded understanding of the role and form of print-media in contemporary art practice. Artists include: Jason Greig, Stuart Ringholt, Sally Smart, Dylan Martorell, Mike Parr, Petr Herel, Tony Garifalakis and David Noonan, among others.
